Coined by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda. A combination of the Hebrew root רבב‎ and Arabic مُرَبَّى‎ (murabbā, “jam, marmalade”), رُبّ‎ (rubb, “pulp”) and رَوْب‎ (rawb, “stiffened milk”).
