From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (aχşam, night), an early borrowing from some reflex of Proto-Iranian *xšáfnyah, perhaps Sogdian 𐫟𐫢𐫀𐫖‎ (xšʾm‎ /xšām/). Akin to Azerbaijani axşam, Turkmen agşam, Karakhanid [script needed] (aχşam, night), Kipchak [Arabic needed] (akşām, night), Georgian ვახშამი (vaxšami).
