From Proto-Turkic *āɣïl.

Etymology
Ultimately a derivative of Proto-Iranian *gauz- (“to hide, conceal”), compare Sanskrit गूहति (gūhati). Possibly influenced by Northeastern Iranian, compare Sogdian [script needed] (ʾʾγʾwδ /āγōδ/, “cover, shelter, barn”). [1][2]
Alternatively, borrowed from a Turkic source: cognate with Ottoman Turkish آغل above[3]
