From Proto-Semitic *ʔināš-. Cognate with Aramaic אֲנָשָׁא (ʾănāšā), Classical Syriac ܐܲܢܵܫܵܐ, ܢܵܫܵܐ (ʾanāšā, nāšā), Biblical Hebrew אֱנוֹשׁ (ʾĕnōš) (whence English Enos).
