From Common Turkic *yinǯü, ultimately from Middle Chinese 珍珠 (MC ʈˠiɪn t͡ɕɨo) ~ 眞珠 (MC t͡ɕiɪn t͡ɕɨo, “genuine pearl”). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yenčü).
