بشره

North Levantine Arabic

Etymology

From Arabic بَشَرة (bašara).

Noun

بشره (bašara) f

  1. skin

Usage notes

  • The second syllable is never stressed. Forms with light suffixes are stressed on the first syllable like the basic form: bášarti (“my skin”). Forms with heavy suffixes are stressed on the third syllable: bašarítna (“our skin”). In the latter case, the pretonic -a- may also be lost; thus alternatively bašrítna.

Synonyms

  • جلد (jild, jilid) (rarer, usually means “leather”)
