حَمِيم • (ḥamīm) m

1. hot water, hot bath, fever
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 6:70:

     ‏لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ‎

     lahum šarābun min ḥamīmin waʿaḏābun ʾalīmun bimā kānū yakfurūna

     For them will be a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve.

حَمِيم • (ḥamīm) (masculine plural أَحِمَّاء‎ (ʾaḥimmāʾ))

1. at a fairly or comfortably high temperature
2. close (e.g., friend, associate, confidant), bosom (e.g., buddy)

     ‏وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ۚ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ‎‎

     wa-lā tastawī l-ḥasanatu wa-lā s-sayyiʾatu. idfaʿ bi-llatī hiya ʾaḥsanu fa-ʾiḏā allaḏī baynaka wa-baynahu ʿadāwatun kaʾannahu waliyyun ḥamīmun

     And the good deed does not equal the bad: repel by that which is better, whereupon he who is inimical to you will be as if he were a devoted friend.
