Etymology

Derived from Vulgar Latin *cuniclus (“rabbit”), from Latin cunīculus (“burrow or tunnel; rabbit”), from Ancient Greek κόνικλος (kóniklos), ultimately suspected to be a word native to the Iberian Peninsula. Cognate with Mozarabic qonélyo, Spanish conejo, and English coney.
