نبيء
Arabic
Etymology
Considered to be the original form of نَبِيّ (nabiyy) by Sibawayh, but sometimes interpreted as a hypercorrection due to the loss of most glottal stops in Old Hijazi.
Noun
نَبِيء • (nabīʾ) m (plural أَنْبِيَاء (ʾanbiyāʾ))
- (sometimes proscribed) Alternative form of نَبِيّ (nabiyy, “prophet”)
Usage notes
Considered incorrect by Sibawayh, but used in the Qur'anic reading tradition of Nafiʽ al-Madani.
