Etymology

From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kwptn' /kōftan/, to beat, pound, crush).[1] Cognate to Central Kurdish کەوتن (kewtin) and Northern Kurdish ketin (dialectal keftin) both meaning 'to fall'.
