Etymology

From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kwptn' /kōftan/, “to beat, pound, crush”).[1] Cognate to Central Kurdish کەوتن‎ (kewtin) and Northern Kurdish ketin (dialectal keftin) both meaning 'to fall'.
