From Aramaic תַּרְתַעֵסְרֶא (tarṯaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܲܪܬܹܝܢ (tartēyn, “two”) + ܥܸܣܲܪ (ʿisar, “ten”); compare Arabic اِثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ (iṯnatā ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה (shtém 'esré).
