Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘁𑘽𑘎𑘜𑘹 (āṁkaṇe) (compare Pali aṅketi), from Sanskrit अङ्कयति (aṅkayati). Cognate with Gujarati આંકવું (ā̃kavũ), Hindustani آن٘کْنَا / आँकना (ā̃knā), Bengali আঁকা (ãka), Assamese আঁক (ãk).
