Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘱𑘚𑘰 (kiḍā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀻𑀟 (kīḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit कीट (kīṭa). Cognate with Konkani किडो (kiḍô), Gujarati કીડો (kīḍo), Hindi कीड़ा (kīṛā), Punjabi ਕੀਡ਼ਾ (kīṛā). Related to कीड (kīḍ).
