Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘻𑘯𑘲𑘭𑘰 (koḷīsā), from Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀮𑀼𑀁𑀘𑀇 / कुलुंचइ / ಕುಲುಂಚಇ (kuluṃcaï), from Sanskrit कूडयति (kūḍayati), कूळयति (kūḷayati). Related to कोळपणे (koḷapṇe). Cognate with Ahirani कोयसा (koysā), Konkani ಕೊಳ್ಸೊ / कोळसो / kollso, Gujarati કોલસો (kolso).
