Etymology
Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘏𑘜𑘜𑘹 (khaṇaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀔𑀡𑀇 (khaṇaï), from Sanskrit खनति (khanati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kánati (“to dig”). Cognate with Konkani खण्चे (khaṇce) and Persian کندن (kandan).
