Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘖𑘰𑘚 (jhāḍa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀛𑀸𑀟 (jhāḍa), from Sanskrit झाट (jhāṭa). Cognate with Konkani झाड (zhāḍ), Hindi झाड़ (jhāṛ), Gujarati ઝાડ (jhāḍ).
