Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀘𑁆𑀘 (ṇacca), from Sanskrit नृत्य (nṛtya), which was originally नृत्त (nṛttá). Also see नृत्यति (nṛtyati, “to dance”). Doublet of नृत्य (nŕtya). Cognate with Punjabi ਨਾਚ (nāc) / ناچ (nāc), Gujarati નાચ (nāc), Sindhi ناچُ / नाचु (nācu), Bengali নাচ (nac), Oriya ନାଚ (nacô), Assamese নাচ (nas).
