Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀸𑀳𑀸 (bāhā), from Sanskrit बाहु (bāhu), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰāǵʰus. Cognate with Old Persian 𐎲𐎠𐏀𐎢 (bāzu), from which Modern Persian بازو (bâzu) is derived; Ancient Greek πῆχυς (pêkhus, forearm). Also akin to Old Armenian բազուկ (bazuk), an Iranian borrowing. Doublet of बाहु (bāhu), a tatsama.
