Borrowed from Classical Persian بیچاره (bēčāra, poor, helpless, pathetic), from بی (, without) + چاره (čâra, help). Compare Gujarati બિચારું (bicārũ), Hindustani بِچَارَہ / बिचारा (bicārā), Punjabi ਵਿਚਾਰਾ (vicārā) / وِچارا (vicārā), Bengali বেচারা (becara), Assamese বেচেৰা (besera).
