From Proto-Indo-Aryan *mr̥Hdʰā́, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mr̥Hdʰā́, from Proto-Indo-European *ml̥Hdʰṓ. Cognate with Avestan 𐬐𐬀-𐬨𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬜𐬀 (ka-mərəδa, “head”), Old English molda.
