Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘪𑘰𑘭 (vāsa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀯𑀸𑀲 (vāsa), from Sanskrit वास (vāsa, “perfume”). Compare Gujarati વાસ (vās), Hindustani بَاس / बास (bās), Punjabi ਬਾਸ (bās) / باس (bās).
