Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘲𑘎𑘪𑘲𑘜𑘹 (sīkavīṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀸𑀯𑁂𑀇 (sikkhāvei). Regular causative formation of शिकणे (śikṇe). Compare Gujarati શીખવવું (śīkhavvũ), Hindustani सिखाना (sikhānā) / سِکَھانَا (sikhānā), Punjabi ਸਿਖਾਉਣਾ (sikhāuṇā) / سِکھاؤݨا (sikhā'oṇā), Nepali सिकाउनु (sikāunu).
