Borrowed from Persian صراف (sarâf), from Arabic صَرَّاف (ṣarrāf). Compare Gujarati સરાફ (sarāph), Hindustani صَرّاف / सर्राफ़ (sarrāf), Sindhi صَرافُ / सराफ़ु, Punjabi ਸਰਾਫ਼ (sarāf) / صَراف (ṣarāf), Maithili सराफ (sarāph) / 𑒮𑒩𑒰𑒤 (sarāpha).
