Borrowed from Persian شُرُوع‎ (šoru'), from Arabic شُرُوع‎ (šurūʕ). Related to सुरवात (survāt), सुरुवात (suruvāt). Compare Gujarati શરૂ (śarū), Kannada ಶುರು (śuru), Hindustani شُرُوع‎ / शुरू (śurū), Punjabi ਸ਼ੁਰੂ (śurū) / شُرُوع‎ (śurūʻ), Bengali শুরু (śuru).
