Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀼𑀡𑁆𑀡 (suṇṇa), from Sanskrit शून्य (śūnya, empty). Compare Punjabi ਸੁੰਨ (sunn), Nepali सुन् (sun), Gujarati સૂનું (sūnũ), Marathi सुना (sunā).
