Inherited from Prakrit 𑀑𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀡 (ŏḍḍhaṇa, scarf, cloak, veil), from early Prakrit *𑀑𑀟𑁆𑀠𑁆- (*ŏḍḍh-, to put on, wear clothes, cover) + -𑀅𑀡 (-aṇa, nominal suffix), borrowed from Proto-Dravidian *uḍ-, or more likely (due to the aspiration), a related language. Doublet of ওড় (ōṛ, pillowcase) and উড়নি (uṛoni, cloak).
