Etymology
Borrowed from Classical Persian چادر (čâdar), itself ultimately borrowed from Sanskrit छत्त्र (chattra, “cover, umbrella”). Cognate with Albanian çadër, Hungarian sátor, Russian шатёр (šatjór), Serbo-Croatian ша̏тор/šȁtor, Turkish çadır. Doublet of ছাতা (chata).
