Borrowed from Classical Persian ‎ (fazil), from Arabic فَضِيل‎ (faḍīl, “virtuous, excellent, respectable”), with semantic inversion by antiphrasis. Doublet of আফজল (aphjol), ফজল (phojol), and ফজিলৎ (phojilt).
