Inherited from Old Bengali রান্ধা (rāndhā), from Sanskrit रन्धयति (randhayati, to cook), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *randʰáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *lendʰ-éye-ti. Cognate with Sylheti ꠞꠣꠘ꠆ꠗꠣ (randá), Assamese ৰন্ধা (rondha), Oriya ରାନ୍ଧିବା (randhiba), Gujarati રાંધવું (rā̃dhvũ) and Marathi रांधणे (rāndhṇe). Doublet of রন্ধন (rondhon), রান্না (ranna), and রাঁধন (rãdhon).
