From Magadhi Prakrit *𑀲𑁄𑀯𑀡𑁆𑀡 (*sovaṇṇa), from Sanskrit সৌৱৰ্ণ (saúvarṇa), from সুৱৰ্ণ (suvárṇa).

     সহস্ৰ সংখ্যাত ঘোড়া অনেক লাখৰ।
     ৰাতি দিনে কছাই থাকে সোণাৰ পাখৰ ॥

     sohosro soṅkhjato ghóṛa oneko lakhoro,
     rati dine kochai thake sóṇaro pakhoro .

     There were lacs of horses in thousands of numbers,
     on they and and night they're bound with saddles made of gold.
