Inherited from Middle Gujarati दहि, दही, from Old Gujarati दही (dahī), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀳𑀺 (dahi), from Sanskrit दधि (dádhi). Cognate to Marathi दही (dahī), Hindi दही (dahī), Punjabi ਦਹੀਂ (dahī̃), Sindhi ڏهي / ॾही (ḍ̠ahī), Nepali दही (dahī), Bengali দই (doi), Oriya ଦହି (dôhi), ଦଇ (dôi), Assamese দৈ (doi).
