Etymology

From Old Georgian ხახჳ (xaxwi). Together with Svan ხახუ̂ (xaxû) ultimately borrowed from Proto-Northeast Caucasian *χǝ̄wχV (onion); compare Bezhta хагъо (xağo) and Chechen хох (xox). Related to Ossetian хахуы (xax°y, allium).[1]
