ἀρά
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Arcadocypriot Greek καταρϝος (katarwos, “cursed”) suggests a preform Proto-Hellenic *arwā, which makes Attic -ᾱ hard to explain; -η would be expected after *w. Not cognate with Latin āra (“altar”). Possibly related to Hittite [Term?] (/aruwae-/, “to bow”).
