ἱδρύω

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Frisk followed Schwyzer in positing a noun *ἱδρυ-, which would ultimately reflect a derivative in -ρ- (comparing ἕδρα (hédra, seat)) of the Proto-Indo-European root *sed- (to sit; settle) in ἕζομαι (hézomai, to sit) and ἵζω (hízō, to sit, seat, place).
