Etymology

From ὄρος (óros) + -εύς (-eús). Case-forms show Attic shortening of the original stem ὀρηϝ- (orēw-); see quantitative metathesis.

Usage notes

Attic speakers preferred the term ἡμίονος, though the adjectival form ὀρικός was used in place of ἡμιονικός.
