Etymology
From older ⴽⴽ (kk), with gemination, or more likely ⵣⴽ (zk), from Proto-Berber, with metathesis from Proto-Afroasiatic. Cognate with Proto-Semitic *ʔakal-, with regular correspondence Proto-Berber *z and Proto-Semitic *l.
