てっぽう【鉄砲】 [noun]gun [noun](sumo) teppo, wooden pillar used in the teppo-oshi exercise [noun](Kansai, slang) pufferfish, 河豚(ふぐ) (fugu), punning on 当(あ)たる (ataru, “poisoned or shot”). I.e., a pufferfish is something that can poison you, just as a gun is something that can shoot you.
(This term, てっぽう, is a hiragana spelling of 鉄砲.)
