Etymology

Wasei eigo (和製英語; pseudo-anglicism), derived from level + up, equivalent to レベル (reberu, noun) + アップ (appu, verb), literally “to up the level or standard". Distinct from the original sense of English level up (to raise to the same level or status, verb), which is from level (verb) + up (adverb).
