Etymology
Attested earliest in Great Tang's New Accounts (《大唐新語》 ) by Liu Su (劉肅) (fl. 806-820):
- 長安中,則天問狄仁傑曰:「朕要一好漢使,有乎?」 [MSC, trad.]
- From: Early 9th century, 劉肅 (Liu Su) 《大唐新語》 (Great Tang's New Account)
- Cháng'ān zhōng, Zétiān wèn Dí Rénjié yuē: “Zhèn yào yī hǎohàn shǐ, yǒu hū?” [Pinyin]
- While in Chang'an, Zetian asked Di Renjie: "We need a gallant envoy, is there any?"
长安中,则天问狄仁杰曰:“朕要一好汉使,有乎?” [MSC, simp.]
