Etymology

Compound of 粉骨 (funkotsu, bone-breaking exertion, literally powdering the bones) + 砕身 (saishin, breaking the body, with overtones of working at something so devotedly that one breaks one's body).[1] Compare Chinese 粉身碎骨 (fěn shēn suì gǔ) and 粉骨碎身 (fěn gǔ suì shēn).
