Verb

가로다 (garoda)

  1. (obsolete except in quotative and past adnominal) to say
공자님 가라사대, "배우고 때때로 익히면 즐겁지 아니한가?"
Gongja-nim garasadae, "baeugo ttattaero ikimyeon jeulgeopji ani-hanga?"
"Is it not pleasant to learn and sometimes to practice?" Quoth Confucius.

Usage notes

This verb is defective and has only three possible (if quite archaic) conjugations: the non-honorific quotative 가로되, the honorific quotative 가라사대, and the past adnominal 가론. It is comparable to English quethe, a similarly defective verb meaning "to say".
