From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥táHwan-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥téh₂-wen-, possessive derivation of *h₂r̥tós (fitted) (*h₂er- (to fit; fix; put together) + *-tós (deverbal adjective suffix)), whence also 𐬀𐬴𐬀 (aṣ̌a). Cognate with Old Persian [script needed] (artava, righteous, blessed, characterized by Arta), Sanskrit ऋतावन् (ṛtā́van).
