Etymology

From the zero-grade form *plΜ₯hβ‚‚-i-, from Proto-Indo-European *plehβ‚‚- (β€œwide, broad, flat”). Originally the PIE adjective most likely inflected as:

  • nominative: *plΓ©hβ‚‚-i-s
  • genitive: *plΜ₯hβ‚‚-Γ©y-s

and the oblique stem was generalized.
