-hVn

Finnish

Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *-hen, a variant of *-sen, probably related to *-len (allative case suffix) and composed of -s- (internal locative suffix; see -ssa) + Proto-Uralic * (lative or dative suffix) (with an epenthetic *-e-). The preceding vowel began to assimilate the vowel in the suffix.

Suffix

-han, -hen, -hin, -hon, -hun, -hyn, -hän, -hön (depending on the preceding vowel)

  1. Forms the illative singular case.

Usage notes

Used after a monosyllabic long vowel. Variant of -Vn.
