Etymology
Non-Sino-Vietnamese word from 北扞 (SV: Bắc Cản). However, the origin is said to be from Tày Pác Kản, currently the meaning is unclear. Besides, according to some documents, the name "Bắc Kạn" is derived from pác cạm (“gateway”) or pác cáp (“the intersection between streams”).
