From Ìlárá + mọ̀kín, ultimately from ì- (“nominalizing prefixi”) + ní (“to have”) + ará (“relative, family”) + mọ̀ (“to know”) + ọ̀kị́n (“egret, a beautiful white bird”), literally “The ones who possess many relatives are as honorable as the ọ̀kín bird”.
