Attested as de Kleine-Lindt in 1846. Compound of klein (“small”) and a toponym potentially derived from a hydronym (derived in turn from Proto-Germanic *linþja- (“flow slowly, flow softly”) or, alternatively, from a term cognate to Old High German lentî (“landing”).
