From earlier pāschen, originally a plural form, from Latin pascha, from Ancient Greek πάσχα (páskha, “Passover”), from Aramaic פַּסְחָא‎ (pasḥā), from Hebrew פֶּסַח‎ (pesaḥ). This word spread in the earlier Middle Ages from the diocese of Cologne.
