Reconstruction:Latin/illince
Latin
Reconstruction notes
It is conceivable that the Romance reflexes do not continue the archaic *illince directly and come instead from Classical illinc, later suffixed a second time with -ce. The same ambiguity occurs with *tunce.
Descendants
- Classical Latin: illinc
Romance survivals:
- Italian: linci (archaic)
- Old Leonese: allence
- Old Portuguese: alençe
