Old Persian
Etymology
Borrowed from Old Median *spiθrah, from Proto-Iranian *cwiθráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćwitráh, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwit-ró-s, from *ḱweyt- (“to shine”) + *-rós. Doublet of *siçaʰ (“white”), whence borrowing Sanskrit सीस (sī́sa, “lead”). Cognate with Sanskrit श्वित्र (śvitrá, “white, whitish”).[1]
